Equipment

I’d like to take this opportunity to promote a local Sussex Archery shop.

Aim archery in North Trade Road, The Sussex Barn, Beech Farm, Battle, East Sussex TN33 0HN 01424 733258 has a great selection of equipment and an indoor range where you can try before you buy.

I’ve purchased most of our equipment from them and have to say they’re very accommodating.

So if you’re considering purchasing some great equipment at a bargain price, why not give them a call.

Two day survival camp

Just completed our first two day survival camp.

Wow what a great 2 days we had and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

We were blessed by some great weather especially clear skies for the night navigation and wildlife viewing.

Congratulations to Jack (12 yrs) who successfully made fire with his bow drill.

Will be looking into our second 2 day camp sometime in September.

Two day survival camp coming soon

Come and join us over 2 days to discover the fascinating subject of bushcraft and survival on our beautiful 750 acre estate in the heart of the Ashdown forest.

Learn how to cook over an open fire, design, make and sleep in your own shelter, track animals and much more.

Food and all specialist equipment is included.

The itinerary would be safety brief and familiarisation talk on arrival at base camp.

Then lesson on shelter building followed by building a shelter and setting up your camp for the night.

After this, a practical lesson on various fire lighting techniques, fire lays, types of wood and food and water preparation for the evenings meal.

Cooking dinner around the camp fire, followed by celestial navigation (if weather permits) evening around the camp fire and bedding down for the night.

Day 2, preparing and cooking breakfast around the fire, wild food foraging and tracking, basic traps and trapping, preparing and cooking lunch followed by a walk and talk through the forest. The day ends by breaking camp and walking out to the car park.

The 2 days would include something like the list below:

  • Shelter Building
  • Basic traps and trapping methods
  • Primitive Fire lighting Techniques
  • Modern Fire lighting Techniques
  • Tracking and nature awareness
  • Campcraft and Cookery
  • Wild foods of the Forest
  • Contemporary Shelters and Tarps

Food would be probably fish (probably trout) and meat would be a red meat of some kind. A variety of vegetables, bread, tea coffee, water and squash.

Great days

I’m please dot report that, despite the dodgy weather, we’ve had some great days of archery and shooting.

The camp fire goes down well with clients being able to warm themselves if they get cold, and being in the outdoors it makes their experience more fun.

Hunger games days for the half term and Easter holidays are getting booked up nicely, and we’re looking forward to greeting all of our guest on their chosen day.

Judicial Review

The all important judicial review on Tuesday and Wednesday. I’ll be in the Royal Courts of Justice to monitor the proceedings. We have a keen interest in the outcome of this judicial review against Wealden District council core strategy of the 7km exclusion zone surrounding the Ashdown forest, as we’re trying to get planning permission for an awesome adventure park on our estate, and the 7km exclusion zone is a thorn in our side. Let’s hope Wealden loose the court case.
